B1G1 - Buy One, Give One - Business for Good
/Wynyard Park Private Wealth is extremely excited about our new project. We've signed up to B1G1. B1G1 is a social enterprise and non-profit organisation. Its mission is to create a world that’s full of giving. Unlike conventional charity models, B1G1 embeds giving into everyday business operations. This makes giving simple, habitual and therefore hugely effective.
B1G1 supports over 600 projects worldwide. These projects are carefully selected. Most of them are grass-roots endeavours and all of them are high-impact. The way B1G1 is set up means 100% of what we give goes directly to the projects we select. This was another reason we decided to link up with B1G1. We can (and do) select projects that directly reflect our philosophy.
At Wynyard Park we believe the best way to bring about real change is to help people help themselves. By prioritizing projects that focus on income generation and education we hope we can help break cycles of disadvantage and bring about lasting change. Here are some of the projects we’ve backed through B1G1.
The Dot Com Mob
Indigenous Australians face extreme levels of disadvantage in living standards, life expectancy, education, literacy, health and employment. It has long been recognised that access to technology is an essential component of addressing Indigenous inequality. Technology is fundamental to enable access to any economic, social or political opportunity. The Dot Com Mob work with remote Indigenous communities in Queensland and the Northern Territory helping them to establish and run their own community technology centres. They provide hardware and training so communities can manage the centres themselves and determine what programs they wan to run. The Dot Com Mob also provides multimedia and IT training programs to improve the educational and employment outcomes for community members.
Microloan Foundation Australia
It is often said that if you help one woman out of poverty she’ll bring four with her. Microloan Foundation Australia’s mission is to help women in Central Africa lift their families out of poverty and help them become self-supporting. They do this by providing microloans to economically disadvantaged women in Malawi and Zambia.
Brian Keen is the Founder and Chairman of MicroLoan-Australia. He points with pride to a lending record that any of the big banks would be proud of: “Although our clients have virtually no income, and no collateral,” Keen says, “MicroLoan manages to recover 99% of all the loans it makes, with interest, so that the money can be recycled over and over again.”
There’s a good reason for that. Before they make their first loan to any client, MicroLoan provides eight business training sessions, and each loan is tailored to correspond with the individual’s personal circumstances and their business plan.
And the reviews are in. These small businesses are having a remarkable effect around the planet, empowering women to learn new skills, improving their self esteem, and inspiring the next generations of daughters. ”We are indeed thrilled with the significant contributions we receive through our association with B1G1,” said Brian Keen, “It’s a marvellous model to really demonstrate the Power of Small.”
